(00:20) Hanumat smaranbhavet buddhir balam yasho dhairyam. Hare Krishna, welcome to Suman TV. I am Gitanjali. Today with us is guest Sriman Pranavananda Prabhuji from ISKCON. Let’s talk to the Guru and clear many of our lingering doubts. Prabhuji, Hare Krishna. If you ask who is the favorite god for small children, they immediately say Hanuman, Jai Hanuman.
(00:49) They love him in every way, looking at him just like a superhero. That’s why, whether they feel scared or need courage, or when a mother gives them a chore, they step out chanting 'Jai Hanuman'. That's right! As children grow older and learn to read, they start reciting the Hanuman Chalisa. This has been the case since childhood for all of us adults, too.
(01:11) Now, the Hanuman Chalisa has achieved a world record on the YouTube platform. You must have heard this, what would you say about it? What is the power behind the Hanuman Chalisa? Let us talk about Lord Hanuman. About the specialty of Hanuman, as you said, kids prefer Hanuman over Batman or Superman. They are no match! Hanuman is the ultimate superhero. Look at him.
(01:31) Regardless of which deity a person worships, They will definitely worship Hanuman as well. Yes. No matter whose devotee they are, they are surely devotees of Hanuman. They visit his temple and pray because that is his very nature. Hanuman knows nothing but service. Look at the people today. They worship Hanuman for various personal benefits.
(01:57) They go to the temple and perform circumambulations for different desires . But look at what Hanuman did; go through the whole Ramayana, he did nothing but serve Rama. Correct. He never had any personal desire. The thought of "I want this" never existed for Hanuman at all. He had only one thought: "What can I do for Rama?" That is all.
(02:23) He never imagined anything other than Rama's service, devotion, and pleasure. Tell me, how is it if we go to such a devotee of Rama and ask for various favors? Look, Hanuman is adorned with Sindoor. There is a wonderful story about him applying Sindoor all over his body, from when Sita Mata applied it.
(02:46) Hanuman asked, "Mother, why do you apply this Sindoor here?" She replied, "By applying it, Lord Ramachandra remains happy and cool." Hanuman thought, "If you applying just a little Sindoor keeps Rama happy, then I shall coat my whole body in it so my Rama stays even cooler!" When Sita asked, "Hanuman, what happened?", he said, "You said Sindoor keeps Rama cool, so I applied it all over my body.
(03:11) " That is his love. That is why he is so dear to Lord Rama. That is why you see Hanuman is decorated entirely with Sindoor. This is the reason. Hanuman wants nothing but Rama's pleasure. Such a devoted follower of Rama is Hanuman. Regarding Hanuman's power, "Yatra yatra raghunatha kirtanam, tatra tatra kritamastakanjalim, bashpavari paripurana lochanam, marutim namo rakshasantakam.
(03:46) " We offer our salutations to that Hanuman. " Yatra yatra raghunatha kirtanam"— wherever the praises of Rama are sung. Wherever the Ramayana is narrated, and wherever the service of Lord Rama is performed, it is said that Hanuman sits there with folded hands, his eyes brimming with tears, listening to the glories of Lord Rama in that state of deep devotion.
(04:13) Yes. How extraordinary is that, tell me. No other YouTube video has even come close to those numbers. It hasn't. This makes us realize that at some point, even those who use YouTube solely for entertainment eventually feel the need to turn to Lord Hanuman. Correct. No matter how much material pleasure we may attain, one day we get bored of it.
(04:47) Yes. One day it feels like enough, but that doesn't happen with spiritual joy. That is why the views for Hanuman Chalisa keep growing, as you were saying earlier in the video; it keeps growing and growing. There is no full stop to the path of devotional service to God. Look at anything else; no matter how much someone enjoys material pleasure—now New Year is coming, the English New Year— they do everything they can, and by the next morning, they are exhausted; yet, the very next day, they bathe, put on a
(05:18) tilak, and go to the temple. Last night they enjoyed it so much that they claim they will never do it again in their lives. Why do they feel the need to make that prayer or resolution? Because they feel disgusted with what they did. At some point, there is a limit. But tell me, has anyone ever said, "Oh, I am tired of going to the temple, I should stop going to the temple"? Has anyone ever said, "I am tired of doing Puja, I should stop doing Puja"? People do have days where they look at the TV and say, "What is this? It's all
(05:51) just a nuisance," and stop watching. But has anyone ever felt disgusted or tired while serving God, having His darshan, or performing righteous deeds? This is where true joy lies; there is no real joy in the other things. Yes. Therefore, through this video—the fact that this video is the most-viewed shows that Sanatana Dharma and Indianness are only useful for devotion to God; they are not meant for anything else.
(06:20) So, whatever we do in our hearts, our spiritual identity, Hmm. our country’s essence and its spirituality—we must never forget this. This video shows that. You must have heard on many occasions that people tell children to chant it for courage when they feel afraid; I am very happy that they are teaching them this now.
(06:43) Certainly, by any means, if one remembers the supreme devotee Lord Hanuman, good things will happen to them. It is said that by remembering Lord Hanuman, we gain many virtues, fearlessness being one of them: " Fearlessness, eloquence, intellect, strength, fame, and courage are all attained by remembering Hanuman.
(07:05) " All these come from remembering Hanuman . But the true worship of Hanuman lies in asking for devotion to Rama, and in helping him slightly in the service of Lord Rama; that is how we can have true love for Hanuman. Therefore, devotees are like the Kalpavriksha ( wish-fulfilling tree). They can grant anything; they will give you whatever you desire.
(07:30) But there is also a real purpose. Yes. Now, let’s look at this real purpose: a man comes to you. He asks if you need any money. Hmm. He says, "Sir, do you want to borrow some? No, take it now; once your work is done, just return whatever I gave you." He asks, "How much can you give?" Should I give one crore rupees? Do we really need one crore? If he can give one crore, he can also give a thousand, or a hundred, or a lakh, or several lakhs, or even just one rupee.
(08:07) Someone who can give a crore can give anything less than that. He can. If someone says they will give you five rupees, is there any point in asking them for ten million? Hanuman can bless us with devotion to Rama, which is worth ten million. Yes. Since Hanuman can grant that, he can surely fulfill the lesser needs that fall under it, such as fearlessness, intellect, strength, and material desires.
(08:35) But when we know that Lord Hanuman can give us devotion to Rama, which is worth ten million, shouldn't we ask for that very thing? If one is wise, yes. It depends on us. Now look, if you give a small child...... a 2,000 rupee note and a Dairy Milk chocolate, they will take the chocolate .
(08:55) But if you come to me, I would say give me the 2,000 rupees, because I know I can buy many chocolates with it. So, we must also know what to ask from God. Therefore, standing before Hanuman, in our Govardhanagiri... Do you remember the little Hanuman in the temple? He stands like this; one hand shows strength, the other shows service, and there must be devotion in the heart—these three must be present .
(09:17) All of us, as devotees of Lord Hanuman, must remember three priorities: first is strength, the strength needed to protect our Sanatana Dharma. Second is unlimited devotion to Rama in the heart, and with the other hand, service to Rama, like bringing the Sanjeevani mountain—only with these three does one become a perfect devotee of Hanuman.
