(00:01) Papa, why do people feel sad? What is the reason? >> Why do people feel sadness? So, it is uh appears to be a philosophical question. But this question is relevant to everybody. Everyone must and should inquire into this phenomena that why I am why I am experiencing sadness. In today's world, human beings have almost everything.
(00:33) Everything means everything. We have technology, we have comfort, we have information, we have entertainment, everything is at our hands length. Yet we are feeling sad. So there must be a subtlest reason behind all this sadness. So after having everything yet sadness did not disappear. Most 90% of humanity this reason or for some other reason they are experiencing sadness.
(01:12) Suddenly a kind of yaku. They don't even know what it is. They don't even know how to avoid it. They don't even know how to understand it. They don't even know how to deal with it. And they can't live with it as well. So what is this sadness? So now man should come to a conclusion that even after having enough success, money, relationships, this and that infrastructure from somewhere the sadness is seeping into human beings life.
(01:47) So today I'm going to talk about my understanding. I am never sad. From many years I have never experienced any kind of sadness. I may fight. I may argue not even for a second I'm I'm not sad. So I have every right to talk about it. A person who is sad he should not give sermons or lectures to people. So Wherever there was opportunity they discussed about it like J Krishna Morti like Osho like Raman Maharashi everyone has uh explored this and try to put it succinctly
(02:33) with their experience. So they all appears to be different but if you really look into it then you will find there is some commonality between all the experience all the verb. So first let us talk about Krishna Morti. What exactly he said? Krishna Morti unequally says that sadness begins when we depend psychologically on something.
(03:07) Let me repeat the statement again. Let me reiterate. Sadness begins when we depend psychologically on something. So sadness is a psychological phenomena. Our body never experiences sadness. Body experiences pain and mind experiences sadness or misery or sorrow. These are the psychological phenomenas. >> Misery means >> same thinking about something and you are not actually crying but you are experiencing a kind of glooiness.
(03:42) You are eating but you are not interested. >> Okay. Okay. So dependence psychologically creates sadness. So everyone right now check or you depend upon somebody psychologically. For example, now you have to go to somewhere. Then to go somewhere you have to hire an auto and you rapido you book auto and you sit in the auto and you travel and you leave the auto and go somewhere but you are not at all depend upon that person psychologically you are paying money and he's driving the auto and destination comes and the journey come to a
(04:25) conclusion wherever there is psychological uh dependency when I has to look into this aspect because dependence breeds fear Krishna Morti says where fear comes from where this fear comes into life because somewhere we are dependent upon something either for happiness or for work or for success for example there is a aspiring actor he wants to become successful and he was happy when he was in his village now he came to city with his back and with all his friends he is saying that I want to become hero or comedian or actor or
(05:04) whatever. So now he's not experiencing any sadness. Each of his word contains some hope and next day he went to film industry film nagar and he start meeting many many uh directors producers and all that. So no one actually paid attention to him. Suddenly fear came into being. Then a person said I'll give you opportunity.
(05:37) You have to wait for some time. Now he psych the psychological dependency began. The first day, second day, third day he kept on meeting that person. 2 months gone and after 3 months this actor, aspiring actor goes to the same producer or director. Sir, what happened to my opportunity? I have been waiting. You have to wait here.
(06:00) There is no other option. If you are in a hurry, go and find some other director and producer. So don't eat my brain. Now the sadness comes because he is depend upon that person. So any psychological dependency creates misery, creates sorrow and that actually the root cause of fear also because there is some fear because you have depended on some something and you are psychologically catching hold of something.
(06:30) You don't know whether to hold it or get rid of it. You are somewhere experiencing a dilemma. That dilemma results in tears. One should cry. One should shed tears for poetry, for music, for aesthetics, for beauty. But people are shedding tears for stupid reasons. Why? Because psychological dependency might be the prime reason. And the another reason you are surrounded by people, few people have money and you need money.
(07:09) Immediately mind starts comparing yourself with that person. So he has more money and you want to look beautiful and suddenly a beautiful person, handsome guy is going. Suddenly you compare yourself with that. Then psychologically you reduce yourself to smitherine and because of the comparison you experience a kind of insufficiency. I am not I I am not enough for this.
(07:38) I am incapable. I am not okay. I am I am an unlucky guy. So all these thoughts start coming. You stop working and you start thinking in a negative way. Slowly slowly slowly slowly if someone comes and you are okay I'll give you the opportunity. You are okay I'll give you the money. You are okay um I'll marry you.
(08:00) Then immediately you forget everything and you bring to this person's verbatic. Then if that person takes time more than usual then psychological dependency starts you experiencing that then sorrow comes sadness comes this comes that comes. So Krishna Morti blatantly says that comparison is a kind of violence against oneself.
(08:25) For example you are trying to hit somebody you are trying to kill somebody that is also a violence. Even you are screaming at somebody with hatred that is also violence. So everyone is committing violence. You are throwing something at somebody. It's a violence. Comparison is also a kind of violence. You are waging a war against yourself.
(08:45) So in a nutshell, Krishna Morti says that never depend upon anybody psychologically. So mind should be free from all that jargon because comparison is also a psychological phenomena. Body never compares itself with anybody. And Wsho explains this phenomena called sadness in a different direction.
(09:08) He is also saying the same thing but his verbatim is different. Osho says that people are constantly chasing happiness outside themselves. So whatever you have it is insufficient. Then you need something else to make yourself 100%. That idea creates sadness within. It is also the same. So people believe and think that happiness comes from outside in the form of money, in the form of better partner, in the form of a house, in the form of a friendship, in the form of opportunity.
(09:46) But whatsoever comes from outside, it may not match your understanding. For example, you like somebody and you suddenly fell in love. But you have not understood that man 100%. You have only seen his body and his way of behavior for half an hour. He treat me so well and I like him. After 10 days he shouted at you and you are devastated.
(10:10) You said my life is gone. So I thought he must be a good man. Whenever you are taking something into life, understand that particular thing in its totality. If gold is coming in your life, thief is also coming. be prepared. So Wsho's understanding and Krishna Morti's understanding looked little different but deep down both are actually saying the same thing.
(10:42) So never seek happiness from outside whether you are happy or unhappy that doesn't matter but don't seek experience what you have already you have abundantly you have a good body good hands good eyes good make good use of them and also says because stop chasing that's what he's saying stop chasing money on the contrary create work money will come that's what I do I am not waiting for money I'm going to write 500 books if each one book is sold every day 500 books are sold every day hypothetically
(11:30) so if I get 100 rupees on each book 500 books into 100 rupees that is money 50,000 so don't wait for the money it it it will not come. Don't wait for the right friend. You behave rightly. A right friend comes. Let people find you. Let people chase you rather than you chasing people and money and opportunity and success.
(11:52) It is all nonsense. And he says that this mind is uh a factory or a busy road where there is full of traffic, traffic of desires. You are kept on seeking something. one after other you are not trying to conclude anything. Long back you desired something you have not done anything in order to fulfill it but you are chasing after you're chasing after another desire and there is no end to it.
(12:23) So don't uh chase all these things. If you realize, please be seated. If you think that your happiness is outside, one thing definitely happen that you experience a permanent dissatisfaction. This is what Osho says. And the third and if you are dissatisfied with what you because people have everything but they are not satisfied.
(12:51) For example, a kid has thousand toys and he just asked his mother for one lollipop and she did not buy the lollipop for him and he said so he can play with thousand toys. There is uh confectionaries in the home but he's not interested in them. He want that lollipop and if it is not there in his life he's sad.
(13:16) So he threw himself into a deep dissatisfaction. Hence he experiences a sadness, restlessness, he creates tantrums and this and that. So this is one aspect. So never expect uh happiness from outside. Even it comes it may not match your understanding. The third these things are quite psychological explanations.
(13:47) So Raman Maharshi explains the same thing existentially. Osho says that don't seek happiness from outside. Ramanar says your nature is happiness. >> You don't have to forget all about seeking or not seeking or satisfaction. Once um I have uh you know heard a story a man comes to a master a wise master and he says that master I have money I have success I have name and fame and this and that good wife but I am sad why the master says that come let's have a cup of tea it is a very famous story in Z and he puts a cup over there and he starts pouring the tea and he says that
(14:31) please explain Explain your situation and now the the cup is completely full but still the master is pouring the tea >> and it is overflowing out of the brim. And this man who said I am sad because of so many reasons suddenly shouts the cup is already full why are you pouring uh tea again and again? The master replied it is like your mind.
(14:59) So your mind is full of greed. Your mind is full of expectations. Your mind is full of this and that desires. Hence you experiencing sadness. There is no other way around. So Raman Marishi we all know about him and uh he simply says that man has forgotten his true natures. For example, you never compare your hunger with anybody's hunger.
(15:26) The true nature is incomparable. We never say that I breathe better than my foreigner. That is your true nature. There is no question of comparison. There is no question of doing it in a better way or in the worst way. You are doing it already. So there is no postponement. You are born happy. Let the realize that and live with it.
(15:52) If you seek, seeking itself implies the future. Suram Marshi says that your real nature is happiness. And he also said very very profoundly that stop chasing after experiences. It is the same thing. For example, people go to enjoy roller coaster. Why? Because he want to experience speed. People wants to go for a drive.
(16:19) Because he wants to experience something else. People want to go to a restaurant not for food. for experience. Food is available everywhere but you are chasing after running after experiences. So Raman Marshi says that stop chasing experiences there is no experience at all because your true nature if you realize that itself is sufficient to be to live happily to complete this lifetime you don't need anything else.
(16:48) See if you look at Ramanumar he simply did that a small goi always there he doesn't have anything he never touched a single penny he did not achieve anything he did not climb Everest and he is absolutely okay and many people came to see him just to experience his presence why because he's experiencing the nature the happiness and whosoever visited him sat in the presence of him everybody experienced the same thing Sometimes he was healthy, sometimes he was unhealthy.
(17:21) The the nature is nothing to do with it. Even when you are experiencing unhealthiness, your true nature is happiness only because you have accepted it. The very acceptance is health. True health. Psychologically you are absolutely okay. So he says that happiness is not something to be acquired. Realize that it is already within within you.
(17:42) Don't search. It's like don't search for uh heartbeat. It is within. So many people say many things but ultimately one has to realize uh what exactly he wants. So how many days and years like day in day out and year in year out he is running after something. So one complaint after another complaint, one question after another question, one inquiry after another inquiry.
(18:17) For example, check yourself. I'm giving a small example. So now you are wearing this and suddenly it now you want to buy a new cloth. So whenever you are buying a new cloth, are you experiencing happiness? Then you you misunderstood life. It is just a cloth. Whether it is new or old, just pay the money and take the cloth and wear it.
(18:50) So there is no change in your nature. Since you are buying something new, you are not gimping and dancing. The moment you are looking at the old torn uh cloth, you are not sad. Your nature is independently separate from everything. So this is actually very profound. That's why I said yesterday there will if you understand life there will be no surprise in your life.
(19:14) Your nature is always constant. Something will come and something will go. Something will raise and something will fall. You are absolutely watching. You are not interfering. And whatever you have to do your dharma, you are doing it. You will be doing uh homework. You will be doing like cleaning utensils.
(19:36) Uh you'll be taking care of your kids, wives and all that. That is perfectly fine. Make sure you are not doing all those things for happiness. You are happy because you are doing everything. It is diametrically opposite. In my auto autobiography there is one line. This is life. If life put into words that's how it is expressed.
(20:10) So I want to conclude by saying whenever you experiencing sadness that is okay but don't blame yourself that you are sad. That is another problem. People are sad and they are worried that they are sad. Now their sadness is double. If you are sad at least be sad. There is no problem if you are crying cry. But while crying I always cry.
(20:37) My life is bad. My life is this. My Don't stop blaming yourself. Then that is the biggest mistake you are doing. So Alen also said never worry about worrying. That is that is a big worry. So there is a problem you start worrying and you continuous worrying for 2 days. Then you said to from 2 days I worried.
(21:00) So you added another worry to it. And someone said that you worry so you praan and he said you should not be worried and he said I was worried for 2 days and I am worried because I kept on worrying about I'm unable to stop. Yesterday I went to praan I I am not following his words also. So another worry you have added.
(21:21) So this is how a small program problem becomes a big big big gigantic problem. So don't do that. First of all realize do you have any ambitions? Go after it. But if you did not succeed, accept it. Then the sadness will disappear from your life. You need money. Don't run after money. Create work. Work brings money.
(21:48) Always focus on work. Always create something. like Michelangelo at the age of 22. He carved a wood Jesus uh sculpture. He was just 21 or 22 and it is just 7 8 ft tall. Just young boy and uh everyone liked it. And there was a big stone. People used to call it David stone because uh a church uh duke uh or pope decided to carve a big David stone.
(22:25) It's from David and Golad, a angry, fiercely young man and they wanted to carve it. So they brought a big stone and they have invited great sculptor from all over the country and many people have come and they have realized that the stone is very hard. It is it is not that easy to sculpt and all great sculptor were above 60 above 70.
(22:49) They all said few people started carving also and government is ready to pay a lot of money and from years 15 years 20 years 30 years the stone was there somewhere in the corner and people used to call it because the David is inside the stone so one has to uh get him out of the stone so David needs liberation so at the age of 21 Michelangelo came and he said I'll carve this and everyone shocked who the hell are So many many greatest artists came, sculptors came, they said it is not possible. I don't know all that.
(23:26) Give me the opportunity I'll call. And he did only one sculpture and they have seen it. And somehow the conviction of this young boy felt uh people felt that okay let's give him an opportunity. And I came I read in the book that Michelangelo did not carve anything. He sat with the stone like this. And he slept on the stone for one month.
(23:52) He did nothing. And everybody started persplexing what the hell are you doing? Go and get your chisel and do that. I said no. Let me understand the rock. This is strange statements because he has certain clarity about his art and craft. And after one month he said that now I start. Nobody knows who is Michelangelo.
(24:15) He was he did not run after money. So many people they want money and they go work in chicken shop. Entire life you are not going to make loads of rupees. If you really want money understand money how money will come into otherwise just do an ordinary job. Don't think of money. Accept your fate. But Michelangelo is not like he's a lion in a small cage there is a big lion.
(24:40) And within two or 3 years he finished carving the David. Slowly slowly it is getting revealed each detail. It is one of the most perfect statue on planet earth. So once the statue is done the entire world knew about his craft. The great sculptor is born. Michelangelo and people started coming to him. They poured cres of rupees and said please come to our country.
(25:10) We need a sculpture. So next 20 30 years he continuously carved many many great sculptures. He don't even know how much money he had and the legend says that he used to have golden steps to his bathroom. There is everywhere in the last days he painted St. Chapel's uh church and continuously he was painting like this on a truss. So he wrote a small poem.
(25:51) He wrote a poem like that. So they just realized how how much potential they have. Money came to them. So I may become rich in my life. Only through my work. I have no interest in money. If money comes, I'll take and I'll use it in a good purpose. Otherwise, if I don't have any great money also, no problem.
(26:15) So realize all these things. Now that the reason I'm not sad because I have realized what money is, how money will come. So what I have to do, what is my potential? It is just a realization. So I want to just conclude by saying in crowded streets the heart feels alone. Chasing the world yet losing its own. When the mind becomes still like a silent sea, the joy we were seeking is what we already be.
(26:41) It is one poem. It simply means you have everything but you missed your own self. You have everything but there is no smile on your face. You have everything. You lost your compassion. You have everything. You are not experiencing good sleep. You are everything. You are waiting for the hunger. You are wait.
(27:04) You have everything but you are not you you don't have even one person to love. This is actually sadness. Enjoy life already. You have abundance. You have good body, mind with these hands. Do some sculpting. Do some painting. You have eyes. Watch good movies. Go into nature. Look at the sky. You have good u legs. Go for a walk.
(27:30) You have good body, do yoga. You have good mouth, speak with us. So everything already you have. So how you can utilize them is absolutely in your hands. So your own self is the greatest happiness. Just realize that already whatsoever you have is enough to lead this life. This understanding permanently removes sadness from your life.
(27:56) By saying this ta bye-bye.
