Transcript:
(00:00) The day of the promotion, Varun came home very happy, holding a big cake in his hand. He had the joy of winning something on his face. As soon as he stepped inside the house, he shouted, " Hey everyone, come out, I got a promotion, let's celebrate." His wife came running from inside. She felt happy and made a wish.
(00:17) But Varun was waiting for his 10-year-old daughter Megha. Megha was sitting in her room writing something, so Varun immediately went to Megha's room and said to Megha's father, "Let's celebrate, I got a promotion. I will take you wherever you like this Sunday. Tell me which place you like. Let's go there. Let's enjoy ourselves happily.
(00:38) " But Megha didn't react much. Once she looked at her father and looked at the calendar next to her. Looking at her father again, she said, "Dad, I'm going out with my friend this Sunday. Sorry, Dad, I don't have time. Let's see you later. " Varuna was surprised because Megha, who used to think of going out with her father every Sunday, now that her father has got a promotion, let's go out and celebrate, didn't even put a place for her father in her calendar.
(01:08) What do you think from what you've heard so far? Has Megha's love for her father, Varuna, diminished? Megha's love for Varuna has not diminished. But Megha's belief that her father will come has diminished. Many of us will be happy after this work is completed. After this debt is paid off, I will enjoy life.
(01:33) After the promotion, I will go to a place I like. After earning a lot of money, I will spend a lot of time with my family. We somehow keep postponing our happiness and enjoyment. Think about it, yes or no. What we are talking about now is not whether work is important or family is important. It is not even whether ambition is good or bad.
(02:00) To be happy means to be today or to postpone it forever. Many people postpone it by saying that they will be there tomorrow or not. Similarly, this Varun is also Varun's story, but if you listen correctly, our story can also be seen in it. If you listen completely, you will understand. So watch till the end and comment if you understand.
(02:22) Going into the story, Varun is working a private job in a middle-class family, with a wife, daughter, and a girl. Parents 'health expenses, wife's needs, children's education, all these are on his head and somehow he manages to support his family. A good man is not a bad father, he works hard for his family.
(02:49) He goes to his office before everyone else, but when he goes home from the office, he reaches home later than everyone else. Even after coming home, he holds a laptop in his hand and tries to complete his work. He always hopes that if he just wait for two more years, his life will be better. When his wife asked him once, he said the same.
(03:06) His friend also asked him once, why are you working so hard? Why do you need to relax sometimes? But he said no , I will go to a good position for two more years. Then I will enjoy it happily and I will work hard for these two years with full dedication. But he has been telling that for the last four years.
(03:28) To everyone who asked, those two years have been four years, two more years have been added, six years have passed and it continues like this. One Sunday, his daughter Megha came to him and asked, "Dad, let's go to the zoo this Sunday." He said, "No, Mom, I have an important presentation, Mom, I have to do it compulsorily, like this Sunday , I have to do it, so let's plan for next Sunday without thinking about it.
(03:55) " Okay, Megha got a little bored and thought okay and went to the side. Next Sunday came. When next Sunday came, Varun got a client call. She said she will not work on Sunday either, but they said that if we are not dedicated, we will not have clients, we should talk. Okay, whatever you want, he stayed on the client call and forgot about the zoo park.
(04:22) "Dad, dad! You said zoo park, right?""No, mom, let's go today. We will get holidays for you, then we will go to any place of your choice. Let's enjoy your holidays," he said. Megha was a little shy this time, she thought to herself. Another Sunday came, another Sunday came. Every Sunday there was some problem, it could be a work issue, it could be a personal problem, the groom somehow came to bypass Megha's wishes.
(04:49) One Sunday, he came to Varuna with a slight anger and said, "Dad, will you take me this time? " That is, "Mom, Daddy is busy this whole quarter. Daddy is going to get a promotion before this quarter is over. If Daddy gets a promotion, let's go on a foreign trip somewhere." Without saying anything else, Megha lowered her eyes and silently walked away.
(05:13) He thought, "Oh, my daughter understands." The next Sunday came, Megha didn't ask. The next Sunday, Megha didn't ask either. Varun felt very happy. Mom, my daughter understood this and thought that she shouldn't disturb Daddy, but did Megha actually understand? When Megha asked for the first time, she was a little hurt that her father didn't want her.
(05:41) She got a little angry when he said no the second time. Later, she stopped reacting at all. When this happens to many, we think that the children have become adults and understand what we are saying because when the time comes, they ask and ask and finally stop asking. We have done a good job of getting through this, this is good treatment, so we should tell them that they understand and understand, this is what they think is parenting.
(06:11) But the reason why they do not ask is not understanding, but knowing that there is no point in asking. Generally, all parents think that if they make a promise to their children and do not fulfill it, then only small children will forget. Children may forget the words, they may let it go, they may not care, but their hearts will be broken, but they will never forget that trust that has been broken over and over again.
(06:38) They will remember it. And finally, as expected, Varun got that promotion. Varun felt very great, he thought that he had achieved what he wanted. But he did not get the happiness he wanted. Because he was disappointed when he thought that he would spend Sunday with his daughter Megha.
(07:01) Varun, on the other hand, struggled until he achieved what he wanted to achieve. But by now, Megha had gotten used to planning her Sunday differently. When Sunday came, she would take a dance class. She started doing projects with friends. Or she started going shopping with their mother. Moreover, she decided not to trust her father under any circumstances.
(07:27) Because whenever she wanted to go out with Varun, she always faced disappointment. So, she was strongly convinced that if she wanted to go out with her father, only disappointment would remain. So in this way, the entire routine of Megha's life changed on Sunday. Varun was not there on Sunday. He thought that the happiness that Varun wanted came through that promotion.
(07:58) He felt great that he had achieved it. He forgot the real thing, that achievements are moments of happiness that we cannot return. Varun forgot that. Every Sunday , Varun, who had been saying something wrong and not fulfilling Megha's wish, this time he asked Amma Megha, let's go out.
(08:20) Megha's answer was not the same as what she had said. Dad, I will go to my friend's house this Sunday. Varun's eyes opened with that answer. Varun understood that he had made a mistake. If he made a mistake, it happened. But what can he do? Varun cannot bring back the time that has passed. Well, thinking about how to correct the mistake that has been made, the next day he bought an iPod that Megha liked very much.
(08:49) He bought it and gave it to Megha and said, "Here is a gift from Amma and Dad. I got a promotion, take the gift. Let's go to the resort this Sunday." Megha took the gift nicely. Thank you dad said that but which resort should we go to? I didn't say I would come to the resort. Dad said that Varun was shocked.
(09:15) That's right, I gave you a gift, didn't I tell you about the resort? What did you say? Yes, dad, you gave me my gift, I took it. I said thank you. And I gave you a gift, mom, can't we spend that much time for dad and celebrate together? He said. Dad, I like the iPod, but I didn't ask for it, you brought it, I took it, otherwise you take it yourself, I don't want it.
(09:44) But I asked for your time, dad. The words coming from that little boy were very big. Those words hit Varun very hard. Varun did nothing wrong. It doesn't mean he is ignoring his family, he is working hard for his family, but what happened was wrong. Many people don't care about their children like this.
(10:10) If their children don't fulfill their wishes, they forget if they give them a gift. If their wife doesn't fulfill their wishes, even if you take her out for dinner once, the wife forgets. We can't see our parents, we keep them away, we are working somewhere, it is enough to send money to our parents. We connect everything with money and when we feel that we have done something wrong, when we have that little guilty conscience, we connect it with money and try to buy something with money and cover it up.
(10:39) I am not saying that giving money, giving gifts or doing something else with money or taking it somewhere is wrong. I am not saying that giving gifts is necessary, giving gifts, giving presentations, these are also wrong. This is also a way for us to express love, that is, to express love, but money is not a substitute for everything, it is not an alternative to our time, it is just a convenience.
(11:01) But money does not make us be with our people like us, sharing their sorrows, their words, their entertainment, their happiness. Here Varun's problem is this , Varun worked very hard for his family , he wanted to earn a lot of money, he did everything he could, but when his family wanted him, he could not give time to them, he could not provide his presence to them.
(11:26) This mistake is not unique to Varun, many of us have made it and will continue to do so. This is the most dangerous habit in our life, its name is the moving finish line. What does the finish line mean? When we reach the finish line, we will be happy , we will be happy, we have achieved it , we keep celebrating that finish line, that is, we celebrate our destination every time.
(11:51) That is called the moving finish line. We say that we will be happy when we reach here, and then we push it further and say that we will be happy after that. They think that if I get a job, I will be happy. After getting a job, if I get married, I can settle down in life happily. After marriage, buying a house is enough for life.
(12:12) After buying a house, the EMI of the house is completed, then I will enjoy life. By the time the EMI of the house is completed, the children's education is not yet complete, so when the children complete their education, I will be happy. When the children complete their education, I should see a good relationship with the children, only then can I be happy.
(12:29) If they are happy, I will be happy, so I postpone it again. Every time we postpone our happiness, we postpone it, and finally the retirement age comes. Well, we will be happy when we retire. Yes, we want to be happy when we retire, but at the time of retirement, we will have money in hand, everyone will be settled.
(12:52) There will be no debt there, but age does not cooperate. Health does not cooperate. If we go anywhere, we will also have the strength. So where is the happiness here? If we postpone happiness every time, postpone it, postpone it, and finally have no time to get happiness, then it will also be sad.
(13:21) So, there will be no happiness in life. That is, we should not set real goals, that is, we should not earn money, that is, we should not grow, that is, we should grow, earn money, set goals, but we should not forget life, we should not give up the happiness in life. Many people think that happiness is at the finish line. They think that living life means reaching that destination, but Varun also made the same big mistake here.
(13:53) He thought that Varun would be happy after getting a promotion. That is, he put promotion in the destination. So he thought that his life starts from that destination. But Varun's life did not start from the moment he got a promotion. Megha held her hand and asked her father for the first time if he would take her to the zoo this Sunday. That is part of life.
(14:21) Life is a journey. We should enjoy the journey. If we start enjoying it after reaching the destination, then the whole journey becomes difficult. So the life lived becomes worthless. So what many people miss is that after reaching some destination, they think that they should start life from there. Who knows , there may be life in the meantime.
(14:45) We cannot even say whether we will survive after achieving everything. We do not know whether we will have the strength or not. Whatever the consequences we have imagined, Varun also missed the same. He thought that his daughter asking him was just an ordinary day. He thought that she would ask him sometime .
(15:04) Many of us want an extraordinary day, a memorable day, but they forget to enjoy the happiness in ordinary moments . They forget to memorize it and turn it into a memorable moment. Playing with the kids for fun is an ordinary moment, but if you remember it, it is an extraordinary moment. Sitting on the sofa with your wife and drinking tea without getting annoyed when your mother calls, listening to your mother's words for a while without getting annoyed, talking and laughing with your friends without any commercial things, listening to your
(15:34) favorite song, meditating, all these are ways to be happy. All these may seem like ordinary moments to see. These may not look great on Instagram reels, but if you can turn these ordinary moments into memorable ones, they give great meaning to life. Megha's words hit Varun very hard. After Megha's words, Varun could not support himself.
(15:58) He did not shout loudly that you know my situation, I am working hard for you, I am earning for my family. He once recalled the mistake he had made in the past. Megha thought about what he had asked, what park was next to the zoo, school exhibition excursion, fun, let's go to the cinema, let's go for lunch, let's go for dinner .
(16:21) Varun's only answer to everything Megha asked was "After after after after after after after" and Varun understood that Megha had lost trust in him and was completely broken. Varun immediately opened his calendar. Varun did not resign from his job, he did not say so at the promotion. He did not decide to spend hours and hours with his family.
(16:50) But every Wednesday night, he rounded up eight to nine hours and blocked Megha's time saying that it was Mega's time. So, he should not look at the phone during that time, he should not touch the laptop during that time, he should not ignore any office call, no matter how urgent the work was, it was unnecessary, he decided that it was up to him what Megha would do with the time he had given to Megha.
(17:20) Because he realized, okay, I couldn't give him time for all these years, so from now on, he wanted to give him time for at least some part of the day. Because even if he said no to the promotion that would completely stop working, all these years of hard work would be meaningless. He has to achieve his goal , he needs money to keep his family well, he needs to grow up, and finally, Megha needs money for her studies, but Megha wants him, which means his daughter should spend time with him, his daughter should spend time with him
(17:51) , which means he should give that time to his daughter. That's why Varun set aside that hour for Megha on Wednesday. On the first Wednesday night, as soon as it was eight o'clock, he put everything aside, everything in silent mode, the phone was silent, the laptop was switched off, the TV was not even turned on. He came and sat on the sofa.
(18:15) Megha has arrived, he said, "Hi Megha," Megha didn't say anything, he said, " Come on, mom, let's talk," he said, "No , dad, I have homework." He said, "Okay ," he thought, "I understood." He didn't pressure Megha. "If I put everything aside for you, you wouldn't talk to me," he didn't say anything because Varun knew.
(18:38) Varun would understand. When he asked about the zoo , Megha asked him about the zoo, he was not a little kid who couldn't understand how Megha would feel later. Varun knew that. Varun thought, "Okay," he said, "Next Wednesday is the day." He saw that Megha gave another reason. Then Wednesday.
(19:05) Then Wednesday. Then Wednesday. Megha stopped talking to dad , saying something like, "My stomach hurts," or "I won't sleep." Megha didn't say anything, so I waited until 8:85. There was all the remaining time. I couldn't say, "Let's turn on the phone again." He was sitting alone on the sofa because it was decided by Megha's time. Varun was so disciplined.
(19:30) Another morning came. Megha, this time, sat next to Varun, who was sitting on the sofa, and told him about the things that happened in his school for only five minutes. Varun listened carefully. She didn't give any lectures like, "Why did you do this? Why did that happen? You shouldn't do that, you should be like this.
(19:52) " He laughed and said, "Yes, Mom, like that, okay." It was over. She left as soon as she said it. When the next Wednesday came, she brought a small board game and came to Varuna. " Dad, shall we play a game?" Megha said. "Okay," he said. The two sat and played the game. Varun knew what real happiness was that day, even more than the day he got a promotion.
(20:22) No matter how big the promotion was, Megha's small invitation, "Dad, let's play the game," turned that time spent into a memorable moment for the world. She understood what happiness means in life . Many people misunderstand that we should live in the present and enjoy the present. Spending all the money we have today is not living in the present .
(20:47) Not thinking about tomorrow is not freedom. Going around without responsibilities is not happiness. Being happy means working in the present, working hard for tomorrow, and enjoying the present. It also means enjoying today and thinking about tomorrow. But, thinking about tomorrow's security and staying away from those with whom we should share that security is a waste.
(21:11) Isn't it a waste to work hard for tomorrow and ruin your health and spend all the hard work for that health again? It is a waste to spend time with children while saying that we are working hard for their future. So, we should work hard for tomorrow, earn money, and grow. At the same time, we should live a life of the present.
(21:32) That is, we should spend money while saving money and find happiness. Happiness does not come from having an iPhone Pro, having someone else, having expensive items, having a big expensive car, or living in a big villa, but we can find happiness even in a hut. We can find happiness even if we say four good words to those we like .
(21:55) That is true happiness only if we give our time to those we like along with money and earning money. If you say, "I'll sit with the children and talk to them for an hour," and they talk for half an hour, looking at their phones is not like spending time with them, or giving them time. If they say something, email them, or look at social media, it's not like giving them time.
(22:20) Spending time with children or with ourselves means that we are really there. Work honestly when we work. When we are with the people we want to be, we are really there, like body present mind absent, but the body is there, not like saying, "Okay." Listen carefully. Listen to what they are saying. Know their difficulties and pleasures.
(22:41) Or tell them your difficulties and pleasures. Or if we want to tell them, tell them what you want. Put the phone aside for that time. It's just an hour, not a day. One hour in 24 hours. Once a day, once a week, once a month. At least, when we spend that time, the income we earn will have meaning. Because the real life is to understand who we are earning for, whether we are earning for ourselves or for those around us.
(23:10) Now, all those watching this video, do a small exercise. I will do it too. So, if you have any happy thing in life, what makes you happy, write down a few things. It doesn't have to be going on a big foreign trip, talking to your mother for 10 minutes, calling a friend, having a fun tea with your wife.
(23:33) I have a favorite book, I want to read 10 pages of it. Which of these are your favorite things? Going to the cinema, sitting comfortably in the park for 10 minutes, meditating, or exercising. Write down some small items that you like. After writing, write down the second question. How long have I been postponing this? Is it my promise work? Will I do it after my debt is paid off? Or will I do it after I build my own house? Or will I do it after my health improves? Will I do it after I cross the age of 40? Something.
(24:02) Let's say you said a big foreign trip, let's make a short version of it. Okay, this is because I need this much money to go on that foreign trip, so I'll pay off all my debts. Or let's say I need a car, this girl, or this girl at home, let's pay off all these things, let's settle the kids.
(24:20) So, make a short version of it. Write a long drive as an alternative to a foreign trip, because if you want to go on a foreign trip, you have to pay for the flight tickets, all these things! Otherwise, okay, you can go on a long drive in a car or if you have a cart, you can go on a long drive in a cart.
(24:32) Or no, no car, no cart , let's go by bus. No, that's not it either, let's go for a walk with your wife or your friends. Let's say you want to go to a restaurant with your family, no restaurant, let's have lunch with your family. Money doesn't help with this, you can do it happily. So write a small version of a big wish. After writing it, write the third question, should I do this forever? Because if we think of it as infinite forever without a deadline, without an ending, we will not have clarity in life. Instead, write down a time.
(25:15) Within a week or a month, I need to call my mother, talk to my childhood friend, go to this temple, see that god , go to this movie, write a small version of something with a timeline. After writing it, try to complete it within that timeline, within that deadline. You will definitely be able to complete it.
(25:40) Because there are some happy ordinary things in our life that do not require money, complete that first. Because this exercise, this is a promise that we give to ourselves. Instead of making promises to others and not fulfilling them, first test yourself to see if you can keep the promises you make to yourself. Don't make big promises, because even if you have five or 10 big promises, if you make a small promise that you can fulfill, it can definitely be fulfilled .
(26:17) That's what I said earlier, don't you , make a small version of your big one and seek happiness, you will definitely find happiness. So again, Varun's story , after a few months, Varun brought a big cake again. This time, it wasn't because he got another promotion, but because his daughter had participated in a school competition.
(26:37) After bringing the cake home, Megha didn't ask if you came first or second, how many places you came in, you participated, that's happy, let's celebrate. The goat felt very happy. She took the cake from her father and went to the calendar next to her and circled Sunday and wrote "Out with Dad".
(27:02) Varuna understood and was surprised. He felt a little guilty that he had lost the knowledge of such a young child. What that means is that when there is no time in the calendar, we don't want to spend time with our family. We have to create a time in the calendar for our family. So, he understood that whenever the calendar is empty, we have to make time for our family. So, we should do the same.
(27:31) If not for this job, another job may come, we may get a promotion again, we may earn money later, we may pay off our debts somehow, but the people we love may not be with us again after missing this moment. Friends who thought they should tell us something, should make their voices heard, may wait for us and when we go to them, they may lose interest.
(27:57) Your children who are waiting for you to talk to you today may not be waiting for you tomorrow. Parents who wanted to share their sorrows with you today may not be with you tomorrow. Your life partner who you thought you should spend time with today may not be interested anymore. It can't be said that everyone waits forever, can it be friends, life partners, children, anyone? It would be foolish to think that they will come when we want them.
(28:23) It would be wrong not to be there when they want us. So happiness is not about seeing it as a reward for achievements. Happiness is a part of every day. If we look at it correctly, there will be a happy moment in every day. We should know that. That's all. Finally, a question for you: are you waiting for happiness or are you trying to be happy today? So you also take a calendar and make a promise to yourself.
(28:55) Write something small that makes you happy. It doesn't need to be big. Write something small and try to fulfill it. Find out what happiness means in life. If you like this video, like it. If you think it is useful to someone, share it . Let's meet again in another video with a new topic.
(29:14) Until then, Ravi on vacation.
