(00:01) Women are emotionally connected and then only they get connected physically. Men are physically connected first and emotional in the sexual He comes to me only for that loving outside [music] marriage. Is that possible? You can love two people at the same time. >> We can be married to someone and we can still be attracted to another person.
(00:38) It's not wrong. Mars are not choosing to marry anymore. It's an option. Wow, they are really a good couple. I don't think they did just to show off because they are one social Coming down to the point of social comparison. You will eventually lose yourself. Level of tolerance is different. for
(01:28) marriage, understanding, respect, emotional connection in the modern world. Why are relationships becoming so complicated? Why are divorces increasing? And most importantly, can a broken relationship heal? Women's psychology, marriage, divorce, emotional trauma and couple healing to help us understand all this soul healers psychologist.
(01:58) So let's dive into the podcast and see in the podcast struggling in relationship but in the conversation is definitely going to help you. Come, let's go to the podcast. [music] Hello everyone, welcome to yet another episode with Priya favorite and then top. So I thought specialist so today I have with me Vijay Santoshi so psychologist who specializes in
(02:43) counseling and off camera I was talking to her women couple related counseling and she's the founder of soul healing and then you do it with the group of counselors but you lead that by the way. How are you? How is your job? Does that influence you? >> First of all, thank you for having me
(03:28) here. It's such a pleasure to be here in your space. We are trained for that. We are able to take a step back and see people for who they are. Deeply connected. Having said that otherwise it is it'll get on to us. Yeah. women are standing up for themselves and
(04:16) doing it. But do you feel that in the exposure has caused a lot more anxiety and pressure on both the gender like when it comes to men to perform and women in terms of asking for what they want. It could be ya too. So men are more demanding from the women and the women are trying to match up social meds especially four years to perform too
(05:07) for each other. pressure. So, Instagram. So, it's like genders. So, and Mari Surya Jodika wow they are really a good couple I don't think they did just to show off because they are one and the 20 years of and marriage and
(05:52) then the celebration and all it was beautiful but has it put pressure on people to show even if though if they not social media definitely definitely They have their own blessings. But compar mental health
(06:45) coming down to the point of social comparison but it's not ideal. Yeah. Being from that fraternity, I can just say that behind it's not the same and it's not practically bed of roses, but women marriage was something I was looking forward to. 10 years down marriage, 12 years down the marriage. It's it's they still love their kids, they love their husband and all of that.
(07:24) But that system of marriage is doing something to them that they are falling apart. What could be the cause for that? successful. If she's happily married compared to
(08:10) women, we are so conditioned to see marriage as the success metric. marriage completion once we are married even if it's a healthy relationship. So men they have men and women post
(08:55) marriage Identity thinking that this person will complete me, this person will take care of everything. So, I can get married, but still I have a life on my own. I can have my life. I can still get married. I can have my life. I can still have kids. I can have my life. I can
(09:40) still build a career. Young girls are not choosing to marry anymore. Because the questions they're asking seems valid to me. We are leaving our parents. Why can't you leave your parents and let's live a life alone and let's take care of them as they need like you said responsibility
(10:27) and then You know I'm not interested in institution of marriage. What is your counseling for that? It's a personal choice. Marriage is not necessity. It's optional. It's an option. If you are ready, it's better that way rather than getting into it. If you're ready, get married. If not, it's still fine.
(11:11) Both the genders like men, women over the span of 10, 20 years empowerment financial freedom. It has given us choice. financial freedom. If I want, I can get married. If not, it's still fine. I don't see it as an unhealthy pattern. It depends on the individual only and
(12:00) it's fine that way. Yeah. So I'm so happy that the younger generation are able to decide and they stand up for themselves and make their ground strong in the women like so you want to be in the family but you want to be happy in the family. I'm married to a mama's boy. I want to prioritize myself, but I don't know how to do it. I was not financially
(12:44) independent so far. I want to start how do you get started in a counseling first and how do you help them? What's the solution? Mama's boy problem dad's little princess mom's if I'm getting married I'm starting a separate family unit it's going to take take some time it's Different parents intervention. in relationship
(13:41) issues. Girl getting into the boy's house. But open foreign I don't take couple sessions immediately
(14:30) first problem. Family intervention family could have physically different mentally. So you have to come out of that entity and start being an individual on your own. Yeah. So
(15:19) why why are we so unbed in this aspect? Okay. foreign what I'm hearing initution of marriage nobody is able to let go of their family as well but we know that border solution is there a solution for that is how it
(16:02) solutions we have to manage and navigate only. So people girl is getting into the boys. Boy has
(16:49) to take that stand. If if it is a joint family setup, boy has to take that stand and say this is my wife's decision. Fore it gets better over time. postpartum depression.
(17:36) Postpartum depression. It will so much will be happening around 2 3 years later. I don't want to want this relationship. I want to come out of it. distance. We have to go back to that time.
(18:27) We have to come back. So relationship is work. Marriage is work. We are getting married. We have to keep working on it. Yes, marriage is work in progress. If it's going to work out, it's good. Toxic environment, you will eventually lose yourself and it affects your kids and all of that. And
(19:12) when do you figure out that okay, this is workable. I can work around this and make this to a better place than what it is now. There is no use working on this any further. We'll move forward with the next steps. Highly subjective traumatic level of tolerance is different although it is it seems stable I don't feel loved so I have to come out
(19:56) and decide I have to come out. It depends on individual to individual. So psychologist point of view we don't decide in the relationship is a healthy relationship. You can continue. It's a it's a very important decision that they have to make even if they had to come out of it. It is draining this individual.
(20:42) client will decide you come out of this relationship. It's not that easy. come out of this but we don't address that address the relationship problems that way there it's it's very complicated and we have
(21:26) to think about the consequences I can easily sit and say both They take their own decision. >> Yeah. Western countries it's they're either married if they're in love or they're divorced if they're not in love or things are not working out. And then it's not that easy. Silent divorce. Married yet divorced. They are married but they are divorced or they separated within themselves.
(22:05) emotional connectivity living on their own life because I'm married but I don't feel married anymore. Have you seen that? I think people are married to four people are happily married. Three to four people are very unhappy and dissatisfied. Middle ground they are married at the same. That's again a choice only.
(23:05) will still continue to stay. It's an individual's choice relationship narcissistic and she got a raving warm response from other women and other people in her own circle that thank you for opening up. I've also been in one the narcissistic relation. It could be either I'm not just gender stereotyping soale. It's all made up in media.
(23:45) They are talking about it narcissistic narcissistic personality disorder one of the disorders. How will you detect a person in fact personality disording psychologist or clinical psychologist are only qualified to do series of test and then diagnosis personality disordic personality existing 100% true personality
(24:31) disorders. You are a narcissist unless you are diagnosed psychologist not to label that person or call out that person first of all. But having said that personality disorder
(25:16) lifeability it's a spectrum series of symptoms by nature I'm not saying everyone majorly men are not that expressive emotionally expressive way of regulating is they'll keep quiet. They'll take some distance. Women want to take some time, resolve it and then come back. personality disorder.
(26:29) At the same time, general behavioral differences in fact illegal OCD, ADHD, or fancy way of uh >> Yeah. Another one which is coming because the three movie I feel my husband is having a bipolar. He is euphoric most of the time. He's so happy and So my life is doomed. I think he's having bipolar
(27:25) psychology. Mhm. Mhm. If they feel they have some [clears throat] challenges, go to a professional, let them sort it out. If you have difficulties, reach out to a
(28:25) professional. Yeah. crosser. So what happens is that there is a concept called living which is very prevalent in metro cities here. So when I started exploring relationships, cleanliness, anxiety, they like to be a little bit all over the place. They like to dress up in some way.
(29:13) So they live, they experience, they see. Only if they like, they get married. So until you live under the same roof with somebody, you will not know the kind of personality. It didn't make sense to me at that point of time because we were grown 10 years back. It makes complete sense to me when you're getting into it as a counseling relationship.
(29:53) It is their own choice. How you are handling this? It's a very difficult topic to take. Yeah. parents mostly most of the time I don't advocate like I won't say that is the right way to do like I'm not against it as well and because we get to know that person before we actually get into a commitment uh marriage commitment we going to live with that person for 40 50 Yes.
(30:32) It's a it's a good thing at the same time. Okay. terms ultimately I will have physical benefits but I don't give you commitment but we are not getting into commitment Every year we keep changing and
(31:16) evolving. When you get married that person is different. After 10 years that person is going to be different. How will you know? How can you predict essential? We have to take that call and commitment. No matter what we have to live a life with that person. We have to work things around. So balance I'll know everything about this person and then only I'll get married I won't know anything has its own dangers in between living traveling with that person at least we will know what we are
(32:02) signing up for challenges. So I'm not against this. I'm not supporting this also. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I get it. First of all when the women are married like women are emotionally connected and then only they get connected physically. I think men are physically connected first and emotional. So in a marriage after a point of time after kids or hormonal imbalances of women loses it but the men is still looking out for it in the sexual discre what is happening actually sexual
(32:52) dissatisfaction still uh sexual life is very important integral part of couple's life either of theat ect over time. So solution first step number one
(33:47) healthier. works. So number women he comes comes to me only for that.
(34:44) They have to move a little forward. work things. Women sexual conversations loving outside marriage. I don't want to do that because um maybe technically that is the term but uh there are there are many reasons that they claim I'm I'm married I don't want to leave this marriage but I love I found love outside marriage be it work
(35:30) wherever they've gone somewhere they met someone they fall in love how is that happening is that possible like you can love two people at the same time falling out of love falling inside love all after marriage how do you see that loving two people at the same time is not possible. >> Uh but you can be legally society wise you will be married to someone but you are emotionally attracted or physically attracted to someone else.
(35:56) That is possible. I want to find that men had multiple multiple queens. It's not gender stereotype. Men and women are choosing their own priorities. I don't want to comment on their moral things and all of that. But I'm just asking practically human psychology wise is it even possible to do that? Practically humans we can be married to someone and we can still be attracted to another person.
(36:44) Even rat experiments sexual pleasure is even better. We have to [snorts] attract. It's not wrong biologically. That's how we are built. that's fine. But having that experience and then acting upon it are two different things. Just because I am attracted to someone, I don't have to or I am enjoying attention from someone, I don't have to entertain that.
(37:27) If I truly if I'm truly committed to one person, I don't have to act upon it. relational practically not possible. attraction. So again, longterm,
(38:15) too much of work, too much of burden. And let's say if you having kids, they need time and attention. So nature again I won't term it as a wrong behavior. I won't say you as a bad person but at the same time you will have its own consequences. you decide it is going to have more
(38:59) harmful consequences if you continue the same behavior. Yeah. How do you work on it and then don't let it take over you point of time you know something is happening you don't want to get into it and you want to safeguard protect that space get back to your So probably not necessarily through another person.
(39:50) I like they get into affair they get stuck at the same time I don't want to leave this marriage also this person is also not being available right what we are having is something that is internal in the I don't generally judge this person is meeting that need. if I'm not valued. Probably I'm a
(40:51) homemaker. I don't have anything else to do or I I don't feel valued at all. [snorts] So start taking up a job or socess it has always been very challenging for me. I can't say this is wrong. This is this is not helpful for you. Because if I tell that or if I'm going to judge, they will feel
(41:38) safe. We let them like it's okay if they want to come out of this marriage and then remarry also. >> [snorts] >> So deep topic I'm going to break a little bit and then everyday basis. So I'm going to do some red flag green flag series and in the so that your partner checks your phone without your permission. Red flag.
(42:22) >> Your partner shares their phone password with you. >> Green flag. >> Okay. Your partner asks you to stop talking to opposite gender friends. But it's a red flag. Your partner wants to know your location all the time. >> Red flag. >> Your partner discusses your private fights with their parents and friends. Red flag.
(42:51) >> Your partner earns more money and controls all financial decisions. >> Red flag. >> Your partner wants personal time and loan time every day. Green flag. Okay. Your partner refuses physical intimacy for a long period without discussing why as a term of punishment. >> Red flag. >> Your partner compass you with their friends, ex or people they like.
(43:18) >> Red flag. your partner ask you to change their dressing style. >> Again, if it's communicated, fine. But it's a red flag. >> Your partner follows and likes their ex's picture on Instagram. Red flag. >> Your partner expects you to share every detail of your day. >> Red flag. Your partner says if you love me you should do this for me.
(43:52) >> Again if you should do this it becomes a demand. Can you >> uh if it's a preference if it's a request it's a green flag. >> Green flag. Okay. If the rapid fire this or that. Okay. Now love marriage or arranged marriage. >> Marriage. No marriage. [laughter] It's their choice. >> Any choice anything marriage? Love or respect? >> Respect.
(44:21) >> Trust or communication? >> Communication. >> Money or love? >> Love. >> Privacy or transparency? >> In between. >> Okay. You can say it's a gray area. Joint family or nuclear family? >> Nuclear family. >> Forgive or forget? >> Forgive. >> Physical intimacy or emotional intimacy? >> Both. Relationship. Fight and resolve or avoid the fight? >> Fight and resolve.
(45:02) >> Couples therapy or individual therapy? >> Individual therapy. >> Second chance or move on? >> Second chance. >> Okay. What is that? Uh a single piece of advice or a collaborative advice that you will give to couples generally to make marriages marriage nobody wants to get into a commitment because divorce aloney legal complications we don't know if we'll get married but I feel it's a beautiful thing that human has created but it's a beautiful thing if it you have a good one I don't want people to be afraid afraid [snorts] of being
(45:40) married, taking ownership in a relationship. Being committed be married that is beautiful of ad. Okay. So I have to find the right person. We spend very little time becoming the right person. It is just a matter of time. When I get to meet people things work out beautifully. But it becomes a trap. So first uh work on
(46:28) yourself get better in every possible way. Reflect on yourself. So you start becoming the right person automatically things uh will align in future. One of the thing gender based differences differ. So over the time and the generation I am also belonging to the same generation
(47:14) but still commitment number I used to complain my parents marriage. for the time. So commitment this generation we are committed to
(47:58) building a strong body. It takes time over the time marriage gets better. Yeah, that was good. Like change yourself before you want to change others for you. Yeah. Was very good. So I think it was a very insightful session. Psychologist therapy like I mean couple questions you ping me I'll consult somebody or I'll bring
(48:44) another guest who cater to the same in our podcast and she has broken that ice for us like marriage this is how it is and then what are the things happening and everything thank you so much uh uh for being here on this show and it was wonderful. You're very calm and composed. I think it's the character of a psychologist state of mind over the time.
(49:16) Yeah, you look young, you are young, but you're very composed. I think it comes with your turnover of your job profile and everything. So, it was wonderful connecting with you for the first time and had a very good insightful podcast. Thank you for asking the right questions and giving me the space. >> Yeah, thank you. Thank you so much.
(49:37) Until then, it's by from Priya Pal. I'm signing off. I'll see you another week. Fight.
