(00:00) Love or cocaine brain almost same effect. Welcome to another episode of Triad Debunks. My name is Dr. Sid Warrior. I'm a neurologist and today I'll be debunking all the myths about your brain on love and emotions. Your brain recognizes the one at first sight. Okay. Anger proves passion. But brain chemicals are the reason people cheat.
(00:33) This is not even true of false. Love cures mental illness. What is this? Love is purely a logical choice. Good transition. Absolutely not. Love is in fact pain, suffering, extreme obsession equal true love. Oh god. Jealousy means you truly love somebody. Uh no that is not true. If it doesn't hurt, it isn't real love.
(01:03) >> Troyer debunksollywood. Jealousy is love, obsession is passion, or heartbreak is proof of true love. But is that actually how your brain works? Social media, love, dopamine, red flags or brain chemistry, countless viral claims. Let's begin. Falling in love gives your brain a constant dopamine high.
(01:29) The only myth here is the word constant. Dopamine high. And that is exactly why love becomes an addiction. When your brain falls in love, there is a roller coaster of dopamine. And it is the coming down that makes you hooked because you want to go back for the second high. crush phase because of the uncertainty. That is why you get butterflies in your stomach.
(01:58) You can't wait to see that person again because you don't know when you'll see that person again. Later on there is certainty and dopamine falls. Love is a choice of the heart choice. It is technically not a choice. You fall in love because there are parts of your brain specifically the lyic system which has found some patterns that it likes.
(02:21) Start with some patterns that your brain has decided. The choice is whether to act on it. It is not a choice. But if love is a verb, love is something that you do, it does become a choice. But not the heart. It's your prefrontal cortex. Next up, emotions are hardwired from birth. Emotions are something that your brain is constantly learning how to process.
(02:52) It is coming from deep deep in your brain. Lyic system or deeper brain stem emotions. If a baby is born and the mother leaves the room, the baby might cry out of fear. wired from birth. But as the baby grows and as the baby's exposed to more safety, comfort, the way that that child will experience emotions is different.
(03:17) This is why childhood experiences are so vital in creating a generation of well- reggulated people. Your brain recognizes the one at first sight. Okay, I am tired of the idea of the one. They go, there is no such thing as the one in a relationship. There is no such thing as a soulmate that you meet at first sight and you know that this person is going to be the perfect one forever.
(03:43) Soulmates are not met. Soulmates are created. It is two brains meeting each other, learning about the ups and downs of staying with each other, making sacrifices, putting in the work, and finally becoming more and more compatible. Love at first sight is a feeling, but a successful love story is a journey.
(04:06) So there is no such thing as the one, especially not neuroscientifically. Anger proves passion. But this is actually not true because anger only proves a disregulated nervous system. This is a primitive brain's response whenever it gets threatened. So if somebody is getting angry, it doesn't mean that they care. It just means that they're not able to regulate their emotion because anger can still be processed, regulated and it can come out in the form of reasonable conversation.
(04:37) But then all it means is that that person cannot regulate. Not really a measure of how passionate they are. Brain chemicals are the reason people cheat. This is not even true or false. This is just stupid because cheating because people cannot regulate their emotion. If you and your partner have an agreement that you are going to be monogamous and if you are in a situation where you want to break that agreement, it is up to your brain's prefrontal cortex to tell your lyic system that no matter what this craving is, you will
(05:13) not do it. It is that simple. If your prefrontal cortex cannot control your lyic system, you will cheat. If it can, you will not cheat. That simple. It is about your prefrontal cortex having the ability to regulate you. Next myth. When the honeymoon phase fades, the brain's chemical connection fades too. Not true.
(05:35) The love story go through certain phases. That is true. So when you meet, there is that crush, initial attraction. After that there is a phase where two people come together, learn about each other. The initial phase is predominantly dopamine and adrenaline. That is the butterfly phase. After that as the adrenaline goes down because there is more safety and certainty dopamine levels can also fall for a while.
(06:04) Later dopamine levels start rising again because now there is commitment and with commitment comes serotonin, oxytocin. You start building an identity together. So if your only idea of love is that initial spark, then yes, honeymoon phase connection. But once you realize that there is so much more to a love story than just that uncertainty, excitement, that is when the true depth of a relationship comes out. Next up, love cures mental illness.
(06:33) What is this? Love cures mental illness? No. Therapy, medication, counseling cures mental illness. Love is what makes curing mental illness worth it because love makes life worth living. Love makes you blind to flaws. This is actually true. Unfortunately, when you fall in love with somebody, your brain actually prevents you from seeing the full picture.
(06:59) And this is because love is a biological gamble. Your brain really wants you to take that leap of faith to actually fall in love. So dopamine higha you are more likely to overlook their flaws and you're more likely to amplify their good which is also why so many people would date somebody for 2 3 months they will be all praises for them.
(07:25) All their other friends will be wondering and then 3 months later when the dopamine high is gone then she'd be like why did I do this? This is what happens in that initial pink glasses phase of a relationship. This is unfortunately true and what can you do? Breakup unfortunately not true. What happens in a breakup especially if it was a long-term relationship is that your brain has already rewired itself to consider that relationship as a part of its identity.
(07:59) So if I'm dating somebody, they are now a part of me. Now I know that this was a breakup but to my primitive brain it is as if a part of my body has been taken away and I will keep feeling the absence of that part of me and moving on from a breakup is a lot more than just willpower. It is basically rewiring your brain networks to realize that your identity is whole and complete without that other person.
(08:26) So it is almost like rediscovering who you are without them and that is a gradual process. Know that it is possible because your brain has this beautiful capacity called neuroplasticity. Your brain will rediscover your identity. Just give it time, space and some love. Next myth. Emotions and logic are totally separate.
(08:48) Totally. Because in the brain everything works in sync. So it is true that there are emotional centers which are to do more with emotions but they both emotions and logic have the same fundamental function which is to try and solve a problem react to a problem. The difference is that emotions are primarily in the lyic system which deals with problems in the immediate emotional response.
(09:26) My prefrontal cortex will try to solve the same problem but it has the capacity to think more long term. My prefrontal cortex is able to think more logically that is it is able to think more long term emotion or logic main what is the duration of time it is calculating let's move on love is purely a logical choice good transition absolutely not love is in fact very often illogical and that is not an accident biology wants you to be illogical no one who is fully logical can fall in love.
(10:08) Because in order to fall in love risk because logically why would you depend on another human being for this much happiness and risk this much sadness on somebody else's decision. illogical and your brain makes it easy to be illogical because it feels so good in the beginning of a relationship. That is why love is a biological gamble.
(10:38) Next, heartbreak. So, psychological brain connection. That is not true. When you go through a heartbreak, all the oxytocin networks that were formed giving you that sense of identity now has to be reversed. That is what creates all that pain, sadness, suffering. It is very much a neurological process that needs to be recovered from.
(11:02) Pain, suffering, extreme obsession equal true love. Oh god, no. That is not true. True love. First of all, let's talk about what true love is. I know that every Disney story wants you to believe that there is one love story that is true and all others are false. But love if you look at it as a journey involves so many lessons that a brain needs to learn.
(11:29) First of all it needs to learn how to understand another human being. How to allow another human being to live with them. How to surrender your own happiness in the decision making of another. lessons seek. Does every love story have some amount of pain? Yes. Because whenever you love, there is also always a chance of loss.
(11:58) There's always a chance of grief. So pain, suffering, some amount of compromise, adjustment. These are things that happen in every single love story. But that does not equate true love. Let's move on to the next myth. Love or cocaine brain almost same effect. Unfortunately, there is some truth to this. At least in the initial phase, love is an addictive feeling.
(12:29) So when you fall in love, your brain releases dopamine, adrenaline, lot of norampetamine, all of which makes you feel like you are alive. Cocaine pharmacology. So there is a lot of the release of same chemicals. What is the difference though? Love has a biological advantage. There is a reason why you feel like that because that feeling of excitement is what makes everything else that happens in love worth it.
(13:00) Our evolution has figured out to convince them to take that risk of getting into a relationship with somebody. So in a way, nature has figured out how to bribe people by giving them an addictive substance just because people getting into relationships and having babies is so important for evolution. Next myth, jealousy means you truly love somebody.
(13:25) Uh no, that is not true. When you are jealous, you are basically saying that somebody else has taken something that belongs to you. When you are jealous, you are experiencing a feeling of ownership. How can somebody else look take something that is mine? You love them. It just means that you love yourself and you care about your own belongings.
(13:53) There is so many other aspects to love. So no, jealousy does not mean that you love someone. If it doesn't hurt, it isn't real love. First of all, real love concept flawed. There are no two people who have loved in the same way. It's not possible. Just like everybody's fingerprint is different, everybody loves differently.
(14:15) So any two people who will fall in love will create a unique love story that is different for them. Every love story if it is authentic, if it is genuine, will make them experience everything. Life will make you experience everything. And every love story is two people living their lives together. So you will experience happiness, you will experience jealousy, you will experience hurt, pain, celebration, all this will happen in a relationship because all this happens in life.
(14:46) If you are living an authentic relationship, yes, it will hurt. That only means that you are being authentic to each other. Does hurt prove that your love is real? Don't do that. I hope queries to comment down below and don't forget to subscribe to try our health channel.
