(00:00) Spirituality means self-annihilation. It is very reverse of the fundamental instinct in every human being, is self-preservation. When your intelligence is capable of looking beyond the fundamental forces which are working within you, that is when the spiritual process begins. The basic process of body and mind is constantly to seek self-preservation.
(00:28) Everything that people are doing on the planet is just self-preservation. Complicating self-preservation in so many ways, but still self-preservation, isn't it? When your intelligence raises beyond that and looks at life, understands life, experiences life, perceives life beyond the fundamental drive of self-preservation and procreation, that is when the spiritual process begins.
(01:00) For people who are deeply entangled in the process of self-preservation and procreation, they're not in any great joy. But anybody who looks beyond that, they will always try to pull them down. That's the nature of the world. There is a very pathetic joke about India. I should not be saying it here. I say it only in India.
(01:29) But now, it doesn't matter. Once there was a man in Kerala. You know Kerala? You heard of Kerala? It's a southern most state [music] which has a long coastline for its size. This man was exporting live crabs to Japan. Suddenly he got a bright idea one day. A box has six sides. Each side, let's say cost a dollar.
(02:02) $6 per box, the package. Suppose I send it without a lid. [music] Each box, each side cost a dollar. If I send a million boxes in a year, $1 million made. And he started sending. When the crabs arrived in Japan, they thought, "What nonsense? Somebody sends live crabs in a open box." They counted 100. At random, they picked up many boxes and counted. Everything 100 100 100.
(02:35) Then they thought, "Oh, this is some new technology." A high-power team traveled to Kerala. They came and said, "What is the new technology? You tell us. Because there from there, they're repacking and exporting millions of boxes. If they have this technology, they will make millions and millions more. So, what is the new technology? We want to know.
(03:04) " The man from Kerala said, "Oh, an opportunity like this to make money, I wouldn't miss it. But you can't do this in Japan. This is possible only in India." Said, "What is the technology?" "No, it is not a question of technology. They're Indian crabs. If one is trying to get away, all the others will pull him down.
(03:29) So, nobody ever gets away." When it comes to spiritual process, I find the whole world are Indian crabs. If anybody is trying to look beyond the processes of self-preservation and procreation, the whole world will try to pull them down back into self-preservation and procreation. Isn't it? Isn't it so? They will say you're abnormal, you're not okay, you're this, you're that, and somehow try to pull you back to self-preservation and procreation.
(04:06) They know once you procreate, you're entangled for two decades. One mistake, if you make, it's 20 years sentence. Isn't it so? Once, there was a man, there was a couple. It was their 25th wedding anniversary. The time for the anniversary dinner came and the man was in tears. The wife looked at him and said, "John, I never thought you were so sentimental about our wedding.
(04:47) I can't believe you have tears." He said, "That's not the point. 25 years ago, when I got you pregnant, your father, being a judge, threatened me. Either you marry my daughter, or I will make sure that you get a 25 years sentence in the prison. Today, I would have been a free man."
